Anglesey Abbey is located at Lode, c 9km north-east of Cambridge on the north side of the B1102 Cambridge to Bottisham road. The c 40ha level site lies surrounded by the flat, open Cambridgeshire fenland landscape, enclosed from it on all sides by dense perimeter plantations.

A Must for Nature Lovers! Seney National Wildlife Refuge surpassed our expectations. We walked the nature trail and also took the driving tour. We saw so much wetland wildlife: an osprey, a bald eagle, an otter, various ducks, geese, dozens of trumpeter swans, warblers, turtles, and a snake.

Anglesey Abbey is the creation of Huttleston Broughton, the 1st Lord Fairhaven, whose father had made a fortune in mining and railways in the United States. Originally a 13th-century Augustinian priory, it was first converted into a manor house in c. 1600 and then extensively remodelled and extended between 1926-58 by Sydney Parvin and Albert.

National Trust Anglesey Abbey Explore all the hidden gardens at this grand country estate

The Constables at Anglesey Abbey, including his largest known painting, The Opening of Waterloo Bridge, 1817, were acquired by Urban Huttleston Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) in the middle decades of the 20th century. He then gave them to the National Trust in 1966 along with his house and collection for everyone to enjoy.
